Autosuggestion

An idea exclusively occupying the mind turns into reality. Autosuggestion is a suggestion to one’s self by one’s self.

Our brain has a tremendous power to transform every logical desire into reality. The key is to believe in what you say.

Please close your eyes. Imagine you are given a yellow lemon. Hold that in your hand, feel the weight. Imagine you smell the lemon. Imagine you have taken a knife and you are cutting the lemon into two parts, feel the lemon juice on your finger as you cut the lemon. Put that half part into your mouth.

If you have done the above exercise, you will notice your mouth has produced some extra saliva.
You can either imagine eating the lemon or eat the lemon your mind will consider it as if the same thing happening.

Autosuggestion is taking to ourselves, and when we are taking to ourselves, we are taking to our subconscious mind. By regular practice of talking to ourselves we can get health, success and happiness.

Autosuggestion has helped many. Every day in every way I am getting better and better when repeated 20 times in morning and at night have given very good results.

There is a possibility that some people do not get satisfactory result with autosuggestion, the reason may be lack of confidence and faith.

A good autosuggestion is effortless.

What is Prayer

Prayer is the greatest power available to the individual in solving problems.

Everyone has had prayed to God in difficulty, when all the avenues appear to have closed one tries to seek the escape from suffering through God.

This is the story of a student and Teacher. Student was in a big problem, his father suddenly passes away leaving the family in debt. Relatives and friends, instead of helping him, took away their dues leaving the family in disaster. The student tried to get a job but he failed. In this situation the student asked the teacher, “Please request God to give me food and clothes for my family.” Student knew that God listens to his teacher and will definitely grant what the teacher asks for. Teacher replied, “I have already given everything to the God and now how can I pray to ask for the same. Why don’t you go and pray to God. God is very kind and I am sure he will not disapprove you.”
Student went before God to pray for food and cloths. When he started tp pray he asked for wisdom and faith. When he returned Teacher enquired,” Have you asked for food and cloths”. Student replied,” No, I asked for wisdom and faith.”

Teacher instructed,” go again and ask for food and clothes for your family that is actually what you need now.”

Thrice the student went in front of God but was not able to ask the food and clothes for his family instead he again asked for wisdom and faith.

With wisdom and faith one realizes the truth about himself. His prayer comes to a standstill.
Prayer is a song of heart addressed to your God. Prayer means surrender. Prayer means gratitude. Prayer means bowing down to existence. Prayer means bowing down to existence. Prayer means communication to God.

Prayer is the power that pulls everything together successfully.

Child takes help from parents, a student from teacher, a servant from the master and in similar way soul takes help from the God through prayers. Prayer gives security to the soul, gives direction to thought and keeps the mind alert.

Some student went to their teacher and request him, “Please teach us how to pray.” Teacher simply fell on ground on his knees and started praying. Students were puzzled, we have asked him the method to pray and what is he doing. Teacher finally answered, “There is no how, there is no other way, I can pray, you can participate.” I invite you to be the part of my prayer. I cannot teach you to pray but I can go into prayer, because prayer is a state of being, not something that you do.

A prayer is not a dialog between I and God, Prayer is a merger, when I disappears into God, It’s the same was like river disappears into an ocean.

1. I must do well and win the approval of others or else I am no good.
This idea deals with your expectations from your own self.
This leads to strong feeling of depression, anxiety and overall worthlessness.
This person may look procrastinating or shy or unassertive or workaholic.

2.Other people must do the right thing or else they are no good and deserve to be punished.

This leads to anger, rage and bitterness.

Major Insights of REBT

Insight No. 1
Its not what happens to us alone that determines our feelings, it is our thinking, our belief about what happens which also contributes to our feelings.
This insight comes near to the quote of a great philosopher Epictetus that people are disturb not by events but by the views which they take from them.

Insight No. 2
Although our beliefs may have been form in the past we continue to re-indoctrinate  ourselves with them now in the present.

Insight No. 3
It is only through hard work and practice that we can overcome these self defeating belief and replace them with more self helping beliefs.

The first two are intellectual insight that person understands the cause of sufferings, but deep inside they still believe they are no good or world my treat them fairly.
Then comes the third emotional insight that only through had work and practice we can overcome these self defeating belief.

Ellis believes that when clients have achieved all three types of insight, elegant change takes place, client have thus made changes and know why they have made the changes.

CBT - REBT - Cognitive Distortions

Definitions of Cognitive Distortions

1.  ALL-OR-NOTHING THINKING:
You see things in black and white categories.  If your performance falls short of perfect, you see yourself as a total failure.

2.  OVERGENERALIZATION:
You see a single negative event as a never-ending pattern of defeat.

3.  MENTAL FILTER:
You pick out a single negative detail and dwell on it exclusively so that your vision of all reality become darkened, like the drop of ink that discolors the entire beaker of water.

4.  DISQUALIFYING THE POSITIVE:
You reject positive experiences by insisting they "don't count" for some reason or another.  In this way you can maintain a negative belief that is contradicted by your everyday experiences.

5.  JUMPING TO CONCLUSIONS:
You make a negative interpretation even though there are no definite facts that convincingly support your conclusion.

     a.  Mind Reading:
You arbitrarily conclude that someone is reacting negatively to you, and you don't bother to check this out.

     b.  The Fortune Teller Error:
You anticipate that things will turn out badly, and you feel convinced that your prediction is an already established fact.

6.  MAGNIFICATION (CATASTROPHIZING) OR MINIMIZATION:
You exaggerate the importance of things (such as your goof-up or someone else's achievement) or you inappropriately shrink things until they appear tiny (your own desirable qualities or the other fellow's imperfections).  This is also called the "binocular trick."

7.  EMOTIONAL REASONING:
You assume that your negative emotions necessarily reflect the way things really are:  "I feel it, therefore it must be true."

8.  SHOULD STATEMENTS:
You try to motivate yourself with shoulds and shouldn'ts, as if you had to be whipped and punished before you could be expected to do anything.  "Musts" and "oughts" are also offenders.  The toward others, you feel anger, frustration, and resentment.

9.  LABELING AND MISLABELING:
This is an extreme form of over-generalization.  Instead of describing your error, you attach a negative label to yourself:  "I'm a loser."  When someone else's behavior rubs you the wrong way, you attach a negative label to him: "He's a goddam louse."  Mislabeling involves describing an event with language that is highly colored and emotionally loaded.

10. PERSONALIZATION:
You see yourself as the cause of some negative external event which in fact you were not primarily responsible for.
